To My Sweet Boy:
You are 5 years old today and not only that, today is your golden birthday.🎂✨ I remember 5 years and 1 day ago, waking up to what I believed was the start of the real deal in labor. (It was.) The night before, I had just seen The Lego Movie in theaters which seems ironic since Legos are your favorite thing along with learning about outer space, playing videogames like Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario Brothers, as well as anything Star Wars, related. Your Dad and I finally finished the original Star Wars trilogy with you recently (even though you’d seen A New Hope more times than I can count). I’ll never forget what you looked like when you found out that Darth Vader was Luke’s father.
Speaking of fathers, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching the relationship you’ve built with your dad, especially this last year. The admiration that you have for him and how funny you think he is so precious to me. Then there’s you and your sister who is either your best friend or greatest annoyance because “she’s not following instructions” while you both play a game you made up.🙃
You are still the best big brother. Always letting me know not only when your sister needs something (or does something she’s not supposed to) but also hugging your new little sibling that is coming (hopefully) next month. You always ask if you can hug my belly and often tell the new baby how cute they are. Your eyes light up when you feel them move and you let me know the other day that this baby is taking “way too long and is ready to come out now”. 😂
Then there’s our one on one time together. You love when we play board games while your sister is napping. In a couple of months, you’ll be starting Kindergarten and I’m so excited for you. All the adventures you’ll have and things you will learn as you continue to grow. I’ve been told several times that time REALLY goes fast when children start school and I believe it. I’m trying to soak up every bit of summer with you before school starts.
I’m so thankful that you are my son. I don’t just love you but I also like you as a person. You are truly special and I’m proud of the person you’ve become. Happy Birthday, Son!
