Fitness or Lack Thereof

April 11, 2018

In what feels like another life, I was a gym rat. When I was 23, you could find me there up to 5 times a week doing various workout classes predominantly yoga, dance and weight lifting for at least an hour. I still like exercise but these days my workout routine is drastically different.

If I could choose, my favorite workout would be in a fitness class or on the eliptical machine at the gym where I can leave my kiddos in childcare and solely focus on exercise. Since we are tightening our purse strings due to our home remodel, which I’ll FINALLY be talking about in next week’s blog, we don’t have gym memberships currently so I’ve had to get a little creative.

My number one workout right now is playing “chase” with my kids. They love to be chased and sprinting after them is a good way to wear them out too. I enjoy walks as well as Dance Central in Fitness Mode on our Xbox One. My kids like to watch the way the avatars dance but sometimes they cry and fuss when I’m doing it. Depends on the day. There are a TON of Pintrest pins on 20 minute workout routines so I do those on rotation when I’m in a time crunch and feel motivated. (SHAMELESS PLUG: Checkout my Pintrest if you’re interest in those as well as every single blog I’ve EVER written on my Pintrest page HERE! You’re welcome. 😘)

I got a jump rope when there was a warm streak a couple months back and HOLY CRAP nobody told me how much of a workout jumping rope is. Who knew that elementary school kids were in better cardio shape than me!😂 Assuming that’s still popular for elementary school kids. I have a pretty active lifestyle with raising two young children but one thing I have tried to hone in on is consistency which is hard because depending on the day everything’s different. Sometimes I get up a 6 and work out early (not since daylight savings) and other times a child (who shall remain nameless) wakes up before 6 am or the kids don’t nap. 😫 Generally it’s just the luck of the draw but when I plan to do something, it’s more likely to happen. It’s a good week if I do some sort of workout (aside from child chasing, that’s daily) 3 or 4 times a week from 15 to 20 minutes.

Secondly, I saw this quote on a friend’s Facebook page a couple weeks ago and fell in love. 😍 I’ve known for a while now that comparison kills when it comes to other people but what about within yourself. I know I’ve seen pictures of myself in passing where I thought I looked better at a certain point in time. I have to set that aside, realize this is my body now and love myself for who I am right now. I’m not where I want to be and I’m okay with that. I love the fit-mom movement and the push now for women overall to take better care of themselves. That being said, I have to watch it around that stuff because it’s easy for me to focus less on empowering myself and more on how I don’t measure up.

What about you guys? What are you doing to get/maintain your level of fitness? What’s your favorite workout? Tell me all about it in the comments.

Also, shout out to Melannie Frater (Hey girl; Hey!🙋🏾) for suggesting this topic. If there’s something you’d like to hear about from me, I’m only a comment or DM away! 💕
