Project 333 Complete

December 7, 2017

Melannie & I have completed Project 333! Hallelujah & congrats to us! 🎉💖🔥 November was a pretty full month for me and went by rather quickly. I’m glad that the challenge is over. I’ve missed all of my accessories so much! This past weekend, I went to a Christmas brunch and wore a brand new outfit along with a different outfit later that evening. It was glorious!

Overall though, I am glad that I did this project. It has changed the way I think about clothing and what I’ll purchase in the future but I’ll share more on that later. Here’s Melannie’s take on the experience.

How happy are you that this project is over?

I was surprisingly excited to be able to wear my other clothes again. It kind of felt like free shipping in my own closet. I was definitely ready for a change in my clothes and I think that was my main reason for being ready to end it.
Would you recommend someone else do this project 333 challenge? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend it to others. I am into any opportunity of self-reflection and challenges and this met both of those. I believe it really challenged me to truly reflect on why I bought a piece of clothing and it’s worth on my life.
Overall was the project easier or harder than you anticipated?
It was harder than I originally anticipated. I very quickly became tired of my outfits and it forced me to think outside the box when it came to putting together different outfits.
What did you learn from this project? Will that lesson/s be applied to your everyday life going forward?
My final take away is to invest in more quality clothing that is versatile. The project has reaffirmed in me the desire to continue to attempt to keep a small wardrobe and be very mindful of every clothing purchase.

The greatest lesson I’ve learned from this, is to purchase quality clothes. I had a $50 sweater (that’s a to me, I’m cheap 😜) that has held up quite nicely after wearing it once every week or two over the last several months. I know other clothing items of mine would not have done as well if they had been included in my capsule wardrobe.

I know for me the way I go about purchasing clothes will change. I am less likely to buy an item that I don’t absolutely love because it’s on sale or inexpensive. More often than I want to admit, I have purchased clothing items that didn’t fit quite right but had a nice price point because of the thrill of the chase. I heard somewhere recently that the average woman in the UK has 22 items in their closet that they have never worn. I’ve never been that bad but I have had a top or two with the tags still on because I wasn’t absolutely sure if I was going to keep it. No more of that!

If you are on the fence about doing this challenge, I would encourage you to do so. It is interesting to see how important your relationship with clothes is and re-relate to the way you think about your clothes. They are there to serve you not the other way around.
