In case you didn’t know, the 88th Oscars were this past Sunday night. A show that celebrated the best in film determined by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Those that are deemed the best were given statuettes made of gold plated brittanium that commemorated their highest honors. As a middle school and high school student, I was glued to the tube during award shows but now that is the furthest thing from my mind.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the lack of diversity in the Oscar nominations this past year. Although, I do find that fact unfortunate that is not the reason why I didn’t tune in.
As the mother of a 20 month old, my screen time is valuable. Most of the tube time in my house is spent watching Sesame Street by my son’s request where Elmo reigns supreme. My sweet husband surprised me with a trip to Memphis this past weekend as well. For me these are two outstanding reasons to keep the tube off. And after a trip to a Memphis hospital on Saturday night (more to come on that later in the week – short story everything is fine) we were exhausted so I slept through the show.
The next day, I read about who won, highlights from the night and the best dressed but as for the night of, I had other plans.
