Year of Intention

January 3, 2018

In my last blog, I teased about choosing a word that I want to encapsulate my 2018. Ready for it? Here goes.INTENTION – an act or instance of determining mentally upon some action or result. (Thanks, dictionary.com 😊)

All of my “resolutions” could be summed up in this word. Sometimes things just happen which is perfectly fine, except when it is wasting time on social media when I could’ve been doing something more productive or relaxing. This happens more often than I’d like to admit, at least multiple times a day.

Often times, I find myself drowning in the black hole of my phone, catching up on other people’s lives while I miss out on living my own. Or scrambling to get my phone so I can take a picture of what my kids just did, or what I just ate (although I’m MUCH BETTER about that) to post it to my feed. Can anyone else relate?

I never really feel that great about myself after scrolling my life away for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. Either melancholy or indifferent. Sometimes bummed out. That being said, I’m going to take a little hiatus from it. I’ll still be uploading my weekly blog but I won’t be checking my feeds frivolously. Especially Instagram, my favorite thing to keep up onWhat if I actually chose what I was going to do with my “spare” time and decided where it was going to go? Instead of pulling out my phone every 5 minutes, I was present in my life.

My hope is that in spending less time on social media, I’m more engaged with my daily life. Spending time on things that are truly important and matter. My family. My friends. My faith.

Do you guys have any words that you hope for this year? I’d love to hear them, so comment below. Happy New Year! 🎉
